Referee’s Crease To Hold 2023 Camps; Organization Helps Advance Officials To NCAA, Pros

The goal of Referee’s Crease is to recruit, train, and advance officials to higher levels of officiating through our comprehensive officiating program.

It is our long-term mission to create a pool of officials who implement rules and call the game in similar fashion at all levels of hockey.

The Referee’s Crease tryout and training camps will assist officials in reaching their goals and advancement.

Recently, Referee’s Crease Co-Director Gene Binda Jr. was named the Supervisor of Officials for the Atlantic Hockey Association, an NCAA Division I conference. Several Referee’s Crease officials have moved on from youth and junior hockey to the NCAA and up to the professional ranks over the years.

All camps will have classroom lectures and discussions, on-ice training, and video review of games worked. Our instructors have worked all levels of hockey. They will provide feedback on skating, mechanics, and game management.

Supervisors from the leagues and organizations listed below will be on hand answer any questions you have about advancement:

• National Ice Hockey Officials Association (NIHOA)
• Junior Hockey all leagues and levels,
• National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1-3 Men’s and Mens and Women’s Hockey
• Professional Hockey.

All of our camps and tryouts are free for any official. Look for more announcements coming soon for camps in Detroit, Mich., and Los Angeles, Calif.

Introduction to Three Officials System
June 30th – July 2nd North Attleboro, MA – USA Hockey NE District Camp U15
This camp is designed for officials looking to learn the one referee and two linesperson system. We will teach the basics of the 3-man system for officials interested in working juniors and advance to College level. The registration deadline for this camp is June 26.

Entry Level – Juniors and Division 3 Men’s and Women’s Camp
July 12th – 16th, Foxboro, MA
This camp is designed for the officials who have some experience at the midget and junior level. Classroom instruction, on-ice and games on July 12th. There is a tournament July 13-16 for those wishing to work the weekend. Games will be assigned by experience for the weekend games.
The registration deadline for this camp is July 3rd.

Junior – College Level Entry Camp
July 16th-17th, Wayne, NJ
This two-day event will consist of classroom and live games. This camp will be used for entrance points for Tier 1 Junior Hockey and Division 1 men’s and women’s hockey.
The registration deadline for this camp is July 3rd.

Junior – College and Professional Level Camp
July 19th – 23rd, Marlboro, MA
This camp is designed for Tier 1 Junior Hockey, College all level D1-D3-Professional Level. This event will have live games for those with junior and college experience. Acceptance is based on work experience. We have reserved 28 spots for those interested in a golf outing on July 20. Respond to gene@refcrease for the golf.
