Leo Mantenuto made no mistake about where to put that puck. Mantenuto scored the OT game-winner also the series-winning goal to send the Idaho Falls Spud Kings to the Dineen Cup Championships in Wayne, N.J. This will be the Spud Kings’ first trip into the field of four teams with one goal – the Cup!
Easton Edwards assisted on both goals, including Andrew Schmidt’s goal that tied the game at 2:32 of the first – after Ogden’s Tommy Fetterman put up the game’s first goal just 23 seconds into regulation. Charlie Durkin was his usual heroic self, making 37 saves on 38 shots, and Ogden’s Dilans Birkans was also a force for his team, stopping 43 of 45 shots. The Dineen Cup Championships begin April 25 in Wayne, N.J.
In the series, the Spud Kings came from being down 1-0 to win three in a row against the Mustangs. This came after pushing through a five-game series against the Pueblo Bulls, in which they were also down by one game twice, including being on the brink of elimination in Game 4.
