Mercer Chiefs Win Atlantic Division Championship, Earn Dineen Cup Championships Berth

The Mercer Chiefs have captured their first-ever Atlantic Division Championship and will compete in the #DineenCupChampionships April 25-29 in Wayne, N.J. The Chiefs were down 2-0 and on the verge of elimination going into Friday’s Game 3 before they won three in a row over the space of four days! They were not going to be able to enter the Championship round as a Wild Card – they had to “win to get in” and they did just that.

Samuel Ciappa and Casey Johnson each scored twice. David Van Iterson and Artyom Barshkin each had two assists. Cole Werthmann made 30 saves on 32 shots for the Chiefs. In net for the Islanders, Lukas Vejmelka made 35 saves on 38 shots.

It’s official now: Mercer will be the No. 3 seed and will face the No. 2 Northern Cyclones at 7:30 p.m. on April 25.

The top seed Spud Kings will face No. 4 South Shore, as the Wild Card team is the No. 4 seed, in the 3:30 p.m. 1v4 opening game.

Mercer was down 1-0 in both of their playoff series, including their Atlantic Division Semifinal against the Jersey Hitmen, in which they also won three games in a row.
