P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 3, Mercer Chiefs 2 (OT3)
The Dineen Cup Playoffs on Wednesday saw a record set for longest game in NCDC history, as the Mercer Chiefs and P.A.L. Jr. Islanders went to a third overtime, the first in the league’s eight-year history, to decide Game 1 on Long Island. P.A.L.’s Devin Niles scored the #OTGWG at 102:31 of the game. No game had ever before gone past a second overtime.
The 3-2 win gave P.A.L. the 1-0 series lead heading into Game 2 tomorrow again on Long Island.
Ryan Franks and Ryan Kearney both scored goals during regulation, and in net, P.A.L.’s Ethan Ramonetti was heroic with 50 saves on 52 shots! Mercer’s Cole Werthmann was also huge for the Chiefs with 63 saves on 66 shots. Game 2 begins at 2 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.
South Shore Kings 3, Northern Cyclones 2 (OT)
We have a winner from Foxboro. Alec Babineau scored South Shore’s overtime game-winner at the 14:12 mark of overtime. Also scoring for the Kings were Caden Wells and Jason Zaccari. Wells’ last-minute goal in the first period ended an early 1-0 Cyclones lead. Beau Lane stopped 35 of 37 shots to help the Kings to the win, and for the Northern Cyclones, Logan Abric made 38 saves on 41 shots.
Game 2 will see puck drop at 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday at Cyclones Arena in Hudson, N.H.
