NCDC Commitments: Islanders Hockey Club’s Hirsch Commits To Saint Anselm College

Islanders Hockey Club forward Brendan Hirsch has enjoyed his experience in the NCDC and is thrilled to announce his NCAA Division II commitment to Saint Anselm College for the 2025-26 season.

Hirsch, an Arlington, Mass., native finished his high school career at Lawrence Academy where he found great success in his two years there. After high school, he signed with the Islanders Hockey Club this season and in 40 games so far, Hirsch has 12 points (six goals, six assists) and is hoping to help lead his team to a deep playoff run.

“The Islanders NCDC team has a good setup with good coaches, and it allows you the opportunity to work hard and become a better hockey player overall,” said Hirsch. “I knew signing there would be a competitive level of hockey that would help me get to the next level.”

Hirsch visited Saint Anselm and met with head coach Larry Rocha during his junior season at Lawrence Academy. Coach Rocha really liked his physical play, scoring ability and his ice awareness. After touring campus and talking with coach Rocha as well as some friends who currently attend there, he knew it was the school for him.

“After going on the full campus tour and meeting with coach Rocha, I got the feeling that Saint Anselm’s could be a good spot for me to go to college and play hockey,” said Hirsch. “On the academic side, I could tell on my visit and from talking to friends who were currently attending there, that it is a strong school academically. Overall, I think Saint Anselm is a great combination of academics, athletics, and campus life. I am super excited to be going there next year.”

Saint Anselm gave Hirsch a feeling of familiarity as the campus reminded him of his days at Lawrence Academy and the facilities are top-tier.

“Saint Anselm reminded me of my prep school experience, which was great for me, but clearly it is on a bigger scale at a college,” said Hirsch. “The athletic facilities are great too, especially Sullivan Arena. My junior season at LA, we played at Sullivan Arena in the NEPSAC Finals and won the Small School Division championship. That was a great memory.”

Hirsch is going to continue to work hard in the offseason on all aspects of his game so he can be an impact player next season.

“Every level you move up it’s less time and space and being responsible in all zones,” said Hirsch. “Having a great summer both on and off the ice will be my focus.”

The Islanders (26-18-3-0) have already clinched a playoff spot and Hirsch is hoping they close out the regular season on a high note and go on a run.

“I want to help the team finish the regular season strong and to be playing our best hockey heading into the playoffs,” said Hirsch. “We have a lot of good players and the potential to make a deep run in the playoffs.”

The NCDC congratulates Brendan Hirsch, his family, the Islanders Hockey Club and Saint Anselm College for his commitment.
