Joining the Northern Cyclones was the best decision forward Alex LoGuercio could have made as it helped lead him to earning an NCAA Division III commitment to Skidmore College for the 2025-26 season.
LoGuercio joined the Cyclones in late October and since then has wasted no time making his presence known on the ice. In 13 games played this season, LoGuerico has 16 total points (nine goals and seven assists) and has been a key part of his team’s success.
The Cyclones (23-6-4) are currently in second place in the New England Division behind the South Shore Kings.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Cyclones this season,” said LoGuercio. “One of my good friends, Mike Markowski, is a captain here and he told me he loved it here so that’s how I made the decision. Every game in this league is very competitive, which I think coaches from colleges recognize and it draws them to our games.”
LoGuercio started communicating with the coaches at Skidmore back in mid-November and he was drawn to playing there. He explained that the coaching staff really liked “my hockey IQ, playmaking abilities, and my shot.”
As far as what drew LoGuercio to Skidmore, it was the competitive hockey team and academically the school has a great program in what he is looking to major in, which is economics, and potentially entrepreneurship.
“On the hockey side it was that they have been a competitive team for the past few seasons and the coaches value developing their players,” said the New York, N.Y. native. “Skidmore fit my needs perfectly when it comes to academics as it is a prestigious institution that offers majors and minors in what I am interested in.”
Being from New York, Skidmore was the perfect place for LoGuercio to call home for the next four years and he really was intrigued with the campus itself.
“I instantly fell in love with the town of Saratoga and the campus,” said LoGuercio. “I loved the tight-knit community feel and the state-of-the-art buildings. “
LoGuercio’s strengths on the ice include his poise with the puck and the way he sees the ice, but he is working towards being the best player he can be before he gets to Skidmore next season.
“I have been working on my skating fluidity and my play away from the puck,” said LoGuercio. “I expect the jump to Skidmore to be pretty big so I will also continue to be harder to get off the puck and try to get a little faster as well.”
Before he gets to the college level, LoGuercio wants to finish his junior career out strong and bring home a Dineen Cup.
“My one goal for this season is to win a championship,” he said.
The NCDC congratulates Alex LoGuercio, his family, the Northern Cyclones and Skidmore College for his commitment.
