The NCDC All-Star Event kicked off on Monday, Jan. 27 and brought four teams of outstanding NCDC players to the ice at Foxboro Sports Center over four games between Monday and Tuesday. Here are some of the brightest performances from the event. Hundreds of fans and supports attended and several dozen colleges of all levels, including NCAA Division I schools, were in attendance to take in the high-flying game action.
Game 1: New England 6, Prospects 3
Team New England got their first of two wins at the event, with six different goal-scorers putting home goals for the “home team.” Only two players earned multiple points, and those were both from the South Shore Kings, who call the Foxboro Sports Center home. Sacred Heart University recruit Jack DesRuisseaux (’04/Manchester, N.H.) and Jake Kavanagh (’05/Montreal, Que.) each had two assists on the day. Among the six different goal-scorers, Northern Cyclones forward and three-year NCDC veteran Ian Duffy (’04/Chester Springs, Pa.) scored the game-winner.
In net for New England, the Utica Jr. Comets’ Michael Valenta (’05/Sumperk, Czechia) stopped all 14 shots he faced in his second half of the game, following a strong 15-save showing from the Cyclones’ Paul Dalessio (’05/Burlington, Mass.) to combine for the win. Leading the way offensively for the Prospects team – a team entirely consisting of players born in 2006 or later – the Rockets Hockey Club’s Tyler Kusznier (’07/High Bridge, N.J.) put home a goal and added an assist.
Game 2: Mountain 8, Atlantic 4
The Mountain Division was on a mission in their first time being part of the All-Star event, and that was especially true of the Pueblo Bulls’ Marschanok twins, who are both ’05’s from Minsk, Belarus. Matsvei scored four goals, and Siamion finished with three assists. The Ogden Mustangs’ Jiri Duda (’05/Glen Ellyn, Ill.) scored the GWG for the Mountain. Goaltenders Devin Peck (’05/Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Marcus Ouellet (’04/Toronto, Ont.) combined for the win with 22 saves. Peck is from the Pueblo Bulls and Ouellet represented the Utah Outliers.
NCDC veterans Aiden Ryan (’04/Raleigh, N.C.) and Ryan Kearney (’04/Garden City, N.Y.) – of the Jersey Hitmen and P.A.L. Jr. Islanders, respectively – each posted a goal and an assist.
Game 3: New England 5, Mountain 3
New England completed the event sweep on Tuesday morning, as they got another couple strong performances in net from Valenta and Dalessio. Valenta started the game and made 13 saves on 15 shots, and then Dalessio closed with 19 saves on 20 shots. The South Shore Kings’ Will Rassier (’04/Princeton, N.J.) put up two goals and an assist, and the Northern Cyclones’ Michael Markowski (’04/Spring Lake, N.J.) also enjoyed a three point effort with a 1-2-3 line.
Game 4: Atlantic 5, Prospects 2
Team Atlantic rebounded from a tough outing against the Mountain on Monday by winning 5-2 against the Prospects All-Stars. Aiden Ryan was again strong for Atlantic, scoring twice as part of a run of four straight goals by members of the Jersey Hitmen. One of his goals was shorthanded and that goal also saw one of the two assists posted by Hitmen teammate Sammy Mielock (’04/Forest Hills, Mich.) The Mercer Chiefs’ Gregory Diamond (’04/West Chester, Pa.) posted two assists. In net, the Chiefs’ Dom Gatto (’05/St. Charles, Ill.) made 10 saves and the West Chester Wolves’ Griffin Davis (’05/Nashua, N.H.) made 17 saves to combine for the win.
